Runners love to run and do not believe that any other form of exercise will give them that feeling of freedom and happiness, BUT you cannot run your best and make the most of that feeling without a strong core. Core strength is the primary force that controls motion in the hips and spine when you run. Weakness or lack of sufficient coordination in the core muscles can lead to less efficient movements, compensatory movement patterns, strain, overuse and injury. So, what is the answer to a strong core? Pilates! It is widely believed that Pilates can improve running performance, prolong your running career, build core strength for improved efficiency and endurance, increase flexibility and range of motion, restore natural posture and alignment of the body, improve stability and balance, correct imbalances in the body and reduce risk of injury, increase stamina and endurance through proper breathing techniques and build upper body strength without adding bulk. I start classes next week!
